Family Photo Sessions in Montana by Loni Judisch Photo

What do you wear for your family photos, I even have problems with this as a Montana family photographer ( I always get a second opinion from my photographer.) I know this is a bunch of work, but it is very worth it to follow these what to wear guidelines for your next photo session. So I’ve come up with a few tips that should help, with images of my real clients, who got it right!

Good job families!! You make it easy for me :)

Tip #1 Find your outfit for yourself first, choose a solid color or small pattern that covers most the arms. Keep the fit tighter in the body and select nice quality materials (no dry fit, no jersey) choose cotton, lace, linen etc.

Search Pinterest for what to wear ideas, find images of models that have the same hair and skin coloring.

Tip #2 Small patterns can work great, still keeping mostly solid.

Tip #3 Contrast light and darks, If you are in dark then have your child in light & husband in a medium value. Choose dressy, casual, or a mix of both. Don’t all wear jeans, mix it up with tan, khaki or black bottoms too.

Tip #4 Utilize neutrals, white, grey, tan, black. Keep colors earthy (no neon or crazy pigments if you can help it.)

Tip #5 Mom wear heels (yes even in the mtns) and jewelry- take those fit bits and smartwatches off! Try to limit bright colors to two, choose the earthy version of your fave color like mustard yellow or rusty red.

Tip #6 Add your style in, have someone wear a hat, use a pop of color or a pattern if needed & have some fun!!

Hair & Makeup: Fresh hair cuts for the guys and clean blow-dried and styled hair for the girls. Wear a little more makeup than usual on the eyes and lips.
